You might be asking, why should I learn WordPress and SEO. I can just pay an agency or have a family friend do it. But is it the most cost efficient way?
1. Empowerment and Control:
Having control over your own website success is something you shouldn’t take likely. I worked with a lot of agencies and having to relinquish control to them have been proven to have negative impact on my company workflow.
2. Cost Savings:
Do you know how much a full SEO audit cost? It’s easily around RM1500 to RM6000 depending on the size of your website. Now do you know how much a simple 6 page website cost? Minimum RM3000. Some of you might argue that’s quite cheap, but this doesn’t include on-going SEO process and on-going maintenance for your website. And what if you want to customize your website further? Or change a word or phrases in your website? That’s another fees you need to think of. Which bring me to my next reason:
3. Customization:
For this argument, I would give you a scenario. Let say you already have an agency made a website for you. You’re happy with how it turn out but the next day you realize something.
“Oh no. All my title on the website is too small and I forgot to inform the developer”.
Then you get on a call with them, and they said any changes will cost you minimum RM50. Well, no worries. It’s cheap and it’s my fault anyway. I can fork another RM50. But the agency said that the changing the whole website title require major changes and RM50 is not gonna cut it. They need to charge you per hour and the whole update will take them at least 6 hours. You see where I’m going with this?
However, when you learn WordPress yourself, small amendments can be made yourself. Even when you don’t have the time, you could at least know how much work it is without an agency/developer overcharging you.
4. Speed and Flexibility:
I have work with an agency which have a horrible response. One minor changes could take them a week to get back to. If you learn WordPress yourself, you could just edit things on your pace. Agency will not have the same urgency as you do. This will hurt you if you have a fast pace website like news or magazine website. Having the knowledge of basic WordPress will make minor adjustment a breeze.
5. Understanding Your Business Better:
With SEO knowledge, you’ll gain deeper insights into your online presence and audience. Learning the ins and outs of WordPress and SEO gives you firsthand knowledge of how your website performs and how to better connect with your target market. Especially when you move further into SEO and start looking into analytics and data.
6. Adaptability to Change:
I have work with agency. I have work as an agency. Let me tell you, while it’s easy to bs your way into the client pocket, it’s much better working with someone who knows their stuff. I like working with people who like to stay ahead of the curve in a constantly evolving digital landscape. By learning WordPress and SEO, you develop the skills to adapt to new technologies and trends, ensuring your online presence remains competitive and relevant.
In essence, learning WordPress and SEO is not just about acquiring technical skills—it’s about taking ownership of your digital destiny and positioning yourself for long-term success in an ever-changing online world. So, why leave your online fate in the hands of others when you have the power to shape it yourself?
